A young girl is recovering in a Melbourne hospital after suffering burns to her upper body in a boat fire on the Murray River.
Emergency services were called to the Robinvale Riverside Caravan Park, 470km northwest of Melbourne, shortly after 10.30am on Wednesday after reports a boat engine exploded.
Paramedics treated a man in his 30s, three school-aged girls and two school-aged boys at the scene, according to an Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman.
They were found to have suffered burns to their hands, arms and legs in the fire, however she said five of the six patients only had minor injuries.
A 11-year-old girl was flown to the Royal Children’s hospital in Melbourne for “precautionary checks” due to the nature of her burns and remains in a stable condition.
Two 13-year-old girls were taken by ambulance to Mildura with minor injuries, where they were treated and released later the same day.
The man, an eight-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl were treated at the scene but were assessed by paramedics as not requiring hospitalisation.
One 11-year-old girl also on the boat at the time was uninjured.
A NSW police spokeswoman said officers were making inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the explosion but had yet to make any findings.
