A Mildura man accused of rape and assault claimed in a police interview that the alleged victim “asked” to be slapped and choked, a jury has heard.

Jordan Blair fronted the County Court of Victoria, sitting in Mildura, on Thursday for day five of his trial on charges including rape, attempted rape, recklessly causing injury and aggravated burglary.

The jury was played Mr Blair’s official police interview on Thursday morning, which showed the accused giving his version of events from Mother’s Day weekend in 2024.

Prosecutors alleged that after a day at Perry Sandhills, an argument between Mr Blair and the woman escalated into violence.

The court heard he was accused of repeatedly slapping her, jumping on her, spitting in her face and biting her cheek before forcing her into the shower and taking a photo.

It was further alleged he then kicked her several times with steel-capped boots and smashed her phone over her head, causing a cut, before allegedly trying to anally rape her, then holding her down and allegedly raping her.

But Mr Blair told police that after what he described as a nice day out, the woman abruptly told him to go home.

“(She) had some split personality thing going on and she told me to f--k off a couple of times (after we got home),” Mr Blair said.

He went on to detail how the woman had pleaded with him to assault her, indicating it was something she liked, admitting he had slapped her because “she asked me to”.

He said the woman had come on to him sexually and asked him to choke her.

“She comes onto me all the time, it does my f--king head in … I remember choking her, it is something she likes,” Mr Blair said in his recorded police interview.

He then proclaimed, “I have only ever defended myself. I have never gone out of my way to attack someone.”

Mr Blair denied during his police interview kicking the woman in the face while she was prone in the shower but conceded he kicked her in the leg and stood there while she was in the shower.

“She was just sitting there … (I told her) just f--king clean yourself up and get out so I can patch you up,” he said in his recorded interview.

He added he helped her out of the shower “and then the f--king sorrys started.”

Towards the end of his official police interview he told the officer the woman told him that she deserved it.

“She asked me to slap her, what’s the word? She demanded it,” he said.

The trial continues tomorrow into its sixth day.
