A Mildura man punched a woman in the face and later threatened to burn her house down unless she let him inside, a court has heard.
Kerry King fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court to plead guilty to charges including unlawful assault.
The court heard on April 3, King and the woman had gotten into an argument and King had followed her to a bedroom at a house and punched the victim in the face.
On another occasion King was banging on the woman’s windows and doors as she hid in fear inside the house, not wanting to let him in. King said he would burn the house down if she didn’t let him in.
Separately, in June 2024, police raided an Etiwanda Ave property where King was present, finding him in possession of two Zip-loc bags containing methamphetamine. Officers also seized additional drugs and drug paraphernalia from the address.
King repeatedly refused police interviews after his arrests and initially denied assaulting the woman.
King’s lawyer Jamie McConachie said he was a Broken Hill boy who had never been employed and suffered from ADHD.
Ms McConachie said once her client gets back to NSW he will be seeking a rehab facility to get clean of his methamphetamine addiction.
Magistrate Michael Coghlan admonished King telling him, “You just don’t treat people this way.”
King was sentenced to 75 days behind bars, with 69 days reckoned as pre-sentence detention.
“But for your guilty plea and the fact that when you’re released you still have to face the music in NSW, I would have sentenced you to four months’ imprisonment,” Mr Coghlan said.
