Mildura man Jordan Blair ‘the cause’ of ugly incident but denies rape, a jury has heard
After a daytrip to the Perry Sandhills, a Mildura man is accused of unleashing a shocking and violent attack on a woman, allegedly raping her, a court has heard.
A Mildura man accused of bashing and raping a woman claims the pair had consensual sex but concedes there was an ugly incident and he was “the cause” of it, a court has heard.
Jordan Blair fronted the County Court of Victoria, sitting in Mildura, on Friday for trial on charges including rape, attempted rape, recklessly causing injury and aggravated burglary.
Prosecutors alleged that over the course of Mother’s Day weekend in 2024, Mr Blair brutally assaulted the woman before attempting to rape her anally and then raping her vaginally.
In their opening, prosecutors said Mr Blair and the woman had been in a casual sexual relationship in the lead-up to the alleged attack.
After a day out at Perry Sandhills, it was alleged the pair got into an argument which led to Mr Blair leaving the house before coming back and walking through the unlocked front door.
It was then he allegedly slapped the woman numerous times across her face and body before jumping on top of her, spitting in her face and biting her cheek.
Prosecution lawyer Russell Hammill told the court Mr Blair ordered the woman into the shower where it was alleged he took a photograph of her, before telling her he was going to “show (her) how dumb and stupid (she) looks”.
A further assault allegedly occurred that involved Mr Blair kicking the woman several times with steel-capped boots before smashing her phone over her head and causing a laceration.
The following day, at about 4pm, Mr Blair allegedly tried to anally rape the woman before allegedly holding her down and raping her vaginally.
The alarm was raised by the woman’s boss after she failed to attend work two days in a row.
After her boss visited the house he called police, saying he felt uneasy about the situation after speaking with Mr Blair, and the accused was arrested.
The court heard Mr Blair pleaded guilty to charges of recklessly causing serious injury and recklessly causing injury, but contested the rest of the charges.
The accused was supported in court by three women and sat stoically in the dock throughout the proceedings.
Mr Blair’s lawyer Daniel McGlone said a lot of what the alleged victim said was accepted, but not all of it.
“Not every fact in this case is in dispute … there was a violent ugly incident and (Mr Blair) was the cause of that,” Mr McGlone said.
He added that Mr Blair contended the sex was very much consensual and “there was express consent.”
The trial will continue in a closed court on Monday, with the alleged victim set to be the first witness called.
