A lifelong Mildura drug addict has been caught travelling with a stash of drugs, weapons, and cash in his mother’s car, a court has heard.

Hong Nguyen fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including possession of methamphetamine and cannabis.

Nguyen had been at a woman’s house when an argument broke out after he began smoking inside.

When asked to stop, he became enraged, smashing a jar filled with coins and throwing a pot plant through a window.

His mother arrived to take him away, but before they could return home, police pulled over the car and uncovered a haul of illegal items.

Magistrate Patrick Southey dismissed the idea of giving Hong Nguyen a CCO saying it would be the equivalent of asking him very nicely to stop taking drugs. Picture: Generic.

Officers found methamphetamine, cannabis, heroin, and pregabalin, a prescription medication thought to have a similar effect to benzodiazepine along with multiple knives and more than $3000 in cash.

Nguyen told police the cash he had was from working, and he was simply transporting the weapons from one place to another.

He made full admissions to the drugs being his, saying they were his and all for personal use adding he had individually wrapped the heroin in doses for himself.

His lawyer Peter Delorenzo proposed a community corrections order, but Magistrate Patrick Southey dismissed the suggestion.

“A CCO would be the equivalent of me asking him very nicely to stop taking drugs,” Mr Southey said.

“You’ll be 50 in a few years time, you can’t live your whole life like this.”

Nguyen was fined $1140 for the drug offences and a further $1140 for charges related to his outburst at the woman’s house.
