A Mildura man has had his attempted murder charges downgraded after stabbing his mate multiple times last year before fleeing the scene.
David Carbis, 31, pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and causing injury in the Mildura Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
The court heard Carbis attacked the victim, his friend, stealing items before fleeing while his mate was unconscious.
Carbis and his co-accused broke into the backyard of a Mildura unit about 10pm and confronted the victim over money owed.
When interviewed by police, Taylor claimed Carbis told him: “You’re coming with me, we are going to make some money”.
But the court heard the conversation escalated when Carbis allegedly punched his victim in the face and lunged at him, causing him to fall over.
The two others in the backyard fled when the conversation turned violent.
Carbis then pulled a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest, back and arm, causing a collapsed lung, broken ribs, internal bleeding and severe blood loss.
Carbis and his co-accused then also fled, while witnesses in the unit came to help the victim and called police.
The victim was taken to the Mildura Base Hospital in a critical condition.
Both men were arrested and charged with a raft of offences.
Carbis will face the County Court on July 5.
