A low-flying plane is expected to buzz the Sunraysia region on Tuesday as the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) carries out crucial safety checks.
A twin-engine Aero Commander will fly as low as a few hundred feet in some areas to test the newly designed instrument approach procedures.
The aircraft is expected to fly within a 40km radius of Wentworth Airport, near the NSW/Victoria border, including over built-up areas of Mildura.
The safety inspections will involve identifying obstacles that could pose a threat to aircraft, such as towers, trees, and other structures. The checks are designed to ensure no new hazards have appeared, like masts or buildings that could affect flight paths.
Locals can expect to see the aircraft performing unusual flight patterns as it navigates the area, marking potential hazards.
If the weather doesn’t co-operate, CASA will reschedule the checks for the nearest possible date.
CASA has advised residents not to be alarmed by the low-altitude flights, which are part of their standard safety procedures.
