Mildura City Council will this month decide whether it should spend almost $1M on two projects.

At its March council meeting councillors will consider spending up to $400,000 for new air-conditioning at the Mildura Art Centre Gallery and $500,000 on redeveloping Red Cliffs’ kindergarten.

According to the council agenda, the gallery’s cooling system was originally built for the council service centre at Madden Ave and was repurposed for its current home.

The agenda also states the expense is required to maintain standards set for Australian museums and galleries.

Another big item on the agenda is the proposed redevelopment of the kindergarten at Red Cliffs.

The agenda reveals the current two-room set up be redeveloped into a new purpose-built facility.

The facility would include four kindergarten rooms, maternal child health consultation rooms, a toy library, a community multi-use space, a breastfeeding room, and a large entry foyer all under one roof.

The proposed redevelopment would cost approximately $5 million with the council contributing $500,000.
