A Geelong man has been accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl while they were on a bus ride from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station to Mildura.

A Geelong man has been accused of plying a 15-year-old girl with GHB before allegedly sexually assaulting her on a bus ride from Melbourne to Mildura, a court has heard.

Jamal Thorpe, 26, fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court from remand after he failed to answer bail amid alleged sexual assault of a child charges.

Police say that Mr Thorpe caught a bus to Mildura, from Southern Cross Station in Melbourne, in November of last year..

During the bus ride, Mr Thorpe allegedly gave the drug GHB, also known as juice, to a 15-year-old girl.

It was alleged that, on more than one occasion, during the bus ride, Mr Thorpe put his hands inside his alleged victim’s pants and underwear and attempted to touch her vagina.

Furthermore, it was alleged he made 102 attempts to contact the alleged victim via mobile phone.

Mr Thorpe’s lawyer, Hugh Middleton, told the court Mr Thorpe had medical issues, and that may have been the reason he failed to answer bail.

Magistrate Michael Coghlan adjourned the matter until Monday, after the address Mr Thorpe was hoping to be bailed.

“I am not going to give you bail. But I am not going to deny it either. I am going to adjourn the matter, part heard, until Monday,” Mr Coghlan said.

The bail application will continue on Monday.
