Two Mildura men are accused of storming a home to violently stab a man over cash they were owed, a court has heard.

David Carbis and Zak Taylor, 19, briefly appeared at the Mildura Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Carbis is alleged to have stabbed a man multiple times on April 27 2021 while Taylor is accused of acting as an accomplice.

Carbis and Taylor are alleged to have broken into the backyard of a Mildura unit about 10pm and confronted their victim over money they were owed.

When interviewed by police, Taylor claimed Carbis had told him: “You’re coming with me, we are going to make some money.”

But the court heard the conversation escalated when Carbis allegedly punched his victim in the face and lunged at him, causing him to fall over.

The two others in the backyard fled when the conversation turned violent.

Carbis then allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest, back and arm, causing a collapsed lung, broken ribs, internal bleeding and severe blood loss.

Carbis and Taylor then also fled, while witnesses in the unit came to help the victim and called police.

The victim was taken to the Mildura Base Hospital in a critical condition.

Both men were arrested and charged with a raft of offences, including attempted murder and trespassing two days later.

Magistrate Coghlan adjourned the cases on Tuesday. They will face committal mentions on September 21.

Taylor’s bail was extended until the next date and Carbis was remanded in custody.
