A homeless Mildura tiler has been charged with several offences, including allegedly throwing a brick through the window of a house, and allegedly refusing to comply with police directions.
Cetin Alcicek appeared at Mildura Magistrates’ Court on Monday after being arrested on Friday, sitting in the gutter, near the house where he allegedly smashed the window.
The court heard Mr Alcicek was also facing several alleged driving offences, including refusing to accompany police for blood alcohol analysis and driving unlicensed.
Mr Alcicek was supported by his brother and a friend in court. His lawyer said he had been clean of meth for 12 days.
It was claimed the passing of his father had also led to an increase in drug taking, which led to him being hauled before court no less than five times this year.
Furthermore, there were suggestions his life had unravelled in early 2023 after the passing of his father and he had been homeless for three months.
Mr Alcicek’s lawyer said Mr Alcicek had bought a tent and pitched it at the Mildura Showgrounds before being told to move on the following day, worsening his situation.
Until recently, Mr Alcicek had never been in trouble with police, the court heard.
Mr Alcicek had his licence suspended for four years and was bailed to a friend’s house for the night and will be assessed by the Court Integrated Services Program (CISP) on Tuesday morning, before reappearing before court on the same day.
He was warned by Magistrate Patrick Southey, “you must not drive again, if you do, you will go to jail.
