Allegations a laser pointer put an aircraft at risk at Mildura are set to be referred to a higher court.
Mildura man Bulent Azis Sahin, 42, on Thursday did not appear at a filing hearing at Mildura Magistrates’ Court relating to several charges.
Sahin has been charged with recklessly engaging in conduct that may have placed a person or persons in danger of death.
Sahin’s lawyer told the court a further charge, recklessly engaging in conduct that may have endangered the safe operation of an aircraft, was a strictly indictable matter to be referred to a higher court.
Both reckless conduct charges related to Sahin allegedly directing a 5mW laster pointer at an aircraft on November 29 last year at Mildura.
Sahin also faces a charge of using a controlled weapon without lawful excuse on that date.
He also faces one charge of possessing a controlled weapon without lawful excuse, four charges of resisting an emergency worker on duty and one charge of possessing cartridge ammunition as a non-prohibited person, all relating to November 30.
Magistrate Michael Coghlan listed the matters for a committal mention on April 20.
Sahin’s bail was extended until that date.
