A lot in the heart of Mildura — abandoned for more than 20 years — will finally be developed.
Local developer Roy Costa will work with national investors to build a storefront with two apartments above it at a cost of almost $1m.
It’s still early days for development as it was long submitted to Mildura rural city council and is yet to be voted on by the council.
Mr Costa said the development was a “welcome” addition to the comerical precinct at Deakin Ave, and it would remove an eyesore.
“The proposed development is a welcome addition to the commercial prescient, and will enhance the visual amenity of Deakin Ave which is one of the major gateway boulevards into Mildura,” he said.
Previously the lot housed the RSPCA op shop before they moved to a new location on Lime Ave.
“Changes to the facility housing the Mildura Op Shop impacted the sustainability of the store, and its ability to raise funds to support the broader work of RSPCA Victoria,” a spokesperson said.
