A Mildura drunk has been thrown in jail for stealing booze from a bottle shop and terrorising staff.
Aisea Tulanga was jailed for a month for shoplifting, assault and driving charges and put on a 18-month community corrections order and urged to seek help for his substance addiction issues.
The Mildura Magistrates’ Court court heard that in December of last year, Tulanga terrorised the BWS on Langtree Mall, repeatedly shoplifting from the premises.
It was also heard that he intimidated and assaulted a staff member.
On three separate occasions, Tulanga waltzed into the liquor store and walked out with a three pack of longneck VBs and Woodstock bourbon.
When he was approached by a staff member about one of the thefts, Tulanga said, “What the f--k are you going to do about it, I’ll f--k you up.”
On top of terrorising staff and stealing from the store, it was also proven that Tulanga had continued to drive, sometimes drunk, despite his license being disqualified.
Magistrate Patrick Southee admonished Tulanga saying, “You have total contempt for other people in the community. Your behaviour is just despicable, you should be ashamed of yourself.”
Mr Southee sentenced Tulanga to one month in prison and urged him to seek help for his substance abuse issues.
Tulanga’s lawyer indicated he would be appealing the jail sentence.
