A Melbourne teenager who allegedly had notes about plotting deadly attacks at a university and high school will have another crack at bail, a court has heard.

It comes as the 19-year-old man, who cannot be identified due to a suppression order, was denied bail last month after he was charged with making or possessing explosive substances and posessing a prescribed precursor chemical in excess of the prescribed quantity.

The man appeared briefly for mention at Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where it was revealed he would apply for bail next week.

During Thursday’s mention the man told the court he spent 23 hours in his cell.

Court documents revealed police photographed notes allegedly written by the accused in his bedroom, containing desires to conduct several attacks including a “story where it is inferred that (he) will blow up a building and kill police”.

In one note dated August 29, the man allegedly wrote that if he did not get into a Bachelors Course by the end of October he would have “run out of excuses” and “this time I will not hold back”.

The notes also allegedly contained information about his new device which could be stored in his pocket.

“It’s much quieter than the original and compact to the point where I can easily put it in my pocket. The best thing is it doesn’t require reloading unlike conventional (sic) which is both noisy and bulky. The only downside I can think of is concealment if discovered.”

“I’m planning to make another one similar to the properties but modify (secret). Who knows, it could be months before the pigs discover anything wrong at all.”

In another note revealed in court documents the man allegedly wrote how if he got “upset” again at his high school he would “take someone with (him)”.

“Just a word of advice, if you are a principal reading this, if you expel me AND (sic) put a restraining order on me, I will show up anyway, kill a random student before I kill myself,” the note allegedly read.

Another note allegedly contained a desire for the police who arrived at the scene to be new to the job and “haunted for life”.

“I hope it’s one or two cops’ first day at work when they see the bodies,” the note allegedly read.

“True, call me disturbed if you want but I simply don’t care. You could be a principal reading this and realising there could be a possible killer in the school, but I don’t care”.

The man came to the attention of Victoria Police in February after a tip off from the FBI about an alleged plot to manufacture a firearm for a high school shooting.

His home was raided with items including a bayonet, 500 bullets, metal parts for the creation of a firearm, precursor chemicals, a military style vest, helmet, gas mask and shooting range targets uncovered in a series of raids.

The man reportedly wanted to study chemistry but was rejected by Monash University as he did not complete his schooling.

The court previously heard extensive analysis of the accused man’s mobile phone had uncovered terrifying internet searches of mass shootings in the US including the Columbine High School massacre and the Christchurch mosque shooting which killed 51 people and injured 89 others.

Other items searched on the man’s phone related to AK47 assault rifles, making bullet casings, various chemicals used as explosives as well as pathways to university without a VCE certificate.

The man will return to court on Monday November 11.
