The Altar Electric has doubled down on its cult following as the ‘hippest little wedding chapel this side of Vegas’ and introduced a new offer for lockdown lovers.

The rocking Collingwood venue is at the forefront of shotgun weddings for couples who don’t want to wait for the pandemic to be over to get hitched.

Complete with disco balls, polaroid pictures and velvet lounges, the venue has partnered with small businesses to keep love alive and the wedding industry afloat in Melbourne.

‘The Honeymooner’ is Australia’s first all-inclusive hitch and honeymoon package with a nod to Vegas featuring neon lights, a vintage Cadillac, photos, food and the choice of a city or regional wedding night.

The new wedding package was inspired love of all things retro, Altar Electric co-owner Dee Brinsmead said it give a boosts to Victorian wedding suppliers.

“We’ve had so many couples who’ve had their wedding and honeymoon plans smashed and so many industry friends whose livelihoods have been devastated,” she said.

“This was a way of giving couples a completely out of the box wedding/honeymoon experience with the added bonus of supporting local and regional businesses who have been really stitched up in 2020.”

When Melbourne first introduced restrictions in March 2020 the chapel saw a surge of couples seeking ‘shotgun’ style packages which complied with COVID-19 restrictions.

Since the pandemic began The Altar Electric has recorded a 50 per cent increase in bookings with couples searching fund local alternatives to traditional celebrations.

Couples have lots to choose from in the package including their honeymoon location, photographer and how vintage their big day will be.

Eclectic hotels have been chosen for the honeymoon with a city option of Notel, a refitted rooftop with retro chrome airstream trailers or in regional Victoria the newly renovated Kyneton Springs Hotel, a nod to the classic Californian motor inn.

The Honeymooner package is $4995 but the first 10 couples to sign up will receive a special ‘I do’ discount of $1000.
