The spring racing season has jumped out of the blocks — and for fashionistas, it’s time to get this year’s must have look.
Putting together the right look can be challenging, but it’s the best way to show off your creativity, personality and express your own style
It’s your time to shine — so don’t hold back, get bold, use your imagination and make fashion your passion.
Dyonsu Menswear business owner Luke Dion said colours were always a hit when it comes to standing out at the races.
“It’s pretty much the one time of the year when you can have fun with colour — everyone sort of gets around it,” Mr Dion said.
“Colours-wise, green is very strong — we’re also seeing a lot of burnt oranges which compliments greens.”
He said from a pattern point of view, pinstripes were highly recommended.
“Slightly blockier pinstripes, so a little bit wider,” Mr Dion said.
“Double breasted is still growing in popularity as well — so bringing back the two-piece whereas the three-pieces have originally been more popular — the jacket, pants and vest combo.
“Knitted ties, paisley is always beautiful, but even matching chromatic colours, so doing all pink with the pink shirts and all one tone is also doing really well especially matching with the girls.”
Mr Dion said it was important to have suits tailored properly.
“It’s probably the most important thing about any suit — so guys getting in a little bit earlier than later to get things tailored so the fit is right — doesn’t matter what suit you get,” he said.
“If it doesn’t fit right, it doesn’t translate.”
My Dion said loafers were becoming the go-to for footwear.
“Colour-wise more tan than brown — obviously Derby Day is your black and white so it can be different,” he said.
“Even with Derby being black and white, people don’t know that you can still wear greys, anything on a monochromatic scale.
“You can do a mix-match like a jacket, vest with the black pants and a grey jacket — it doesn’t just have to be a black suit or a white suit.”
Mr Dion said layering suits was the key to success.
“Mixing and matching jacket, vest and different pants is definitely the way to go — menswear is about marrying colours together — a suit looks so good because of the matching jacket and matching pants.
“If you’ve got to split things up — like a tan pant with a navy jacket, introduce that tan back at the top in a hanky, a tie or a pin just so that it balances the colours.
“Mixing and matching in a very way that ties it into a present with a nice bow rather than just colours that contrast but nothing really ties in at the end.”

Politix Menswear ambassador Dacre Montgomery knows what to do when it comes to fashion.
The actor and model has long been the face of Politix, promoting some sharp outfits that would turn heads at any carnival.
An outfit in particular is a camel and steel blue coloured suit he had posed in.
Mr Montgomery told Politix the colours elevate the range and offer a more “sartorial option” for men who know that it’s not about self-importance, but self-respect.
