The founder of a high-end fashion label slunk under a woman’s garage door and sneakily put a tracker on the underside of her car, a court has heard.
Jim Sachinidis, 53 and the founder of Satch, appeared at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court by video on Thursday and pleaded guilty to stalking.
The court heard that in April this year, Sachinidis used a stolen fob to enter a woman’s Elwood garage and rummage through her car.
He then “tampered” with the vehicle for some 15 minutes while underneath it, where it was believed he placed a tracking device.
Sachinidis was arrested on May 2 and taken to Broadmeadows police station.
He denied the allegations, saying “that’s not me” when showed CCTV footage.
“Lots of people have beards,” he said.
Sachinidis’ offending was said to have escalated in 2022 following the collapse of a new business venture, loss of income, and his falling into drug use.
The court heard the stalking took place in the context of mainly methamphetamine use and homelessness.
Sachinidis will be assessed for a community correction order and return to court on Friday.
He has spent 54 days in custody.
