A homeless man accused of randomly attacking a woman while she walked through Melbourne’s CBD has been ordered to stand trial.
Robert Tilbrook on Monday appeared before Melbourne Magistrates Court via video link from remand.
He has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury and intentionally causing serious injury in circumstances of gross violence.
Mr Tilbrook pleaded not guilty to the charges and did not apply for bail.
The charges stem from an incident on January 31 when a woman, 54, was allegedly bashed by a man she did not know.
The woman, who was walking along Exhibition Street near Flinders Lane about 8am, suffered critical facial and head injuries before nearby tradies rushed to her aid.
The case is set to return to court on October 17.
