Thousands of cosplayers and gaming fans took an adventure to the Melbourne Oz Comic Con on the King’s Birthday long weekend.
Held at the Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre in South Wharf, this year’s event is shaping up to be unforgettable.
Gates opened at 9am on Saturday and Sunday, where fans of comics, video games and pop culture were promised a jam-packed weekend of excitement and action.
The event featured a star-studded line-up of guests, including comic book legends, voice actors and industry professionals.
Attendees were encouraged to use their wildest imagination and dress up in their most creative and eye-catching costumes — those that stand out from the crowd.
Attendee Peter Wright told the Herald Sun he goes to Comic Con every year.
“We absolutely love it — the costumes, the people — it is fantastic,” Mr Wright said.
His daughter, Journey Wright, said it was so fun to cosplay with everyone and makes her costumes herself each year.
“It’s really fun when people know who you are and appreciate all the effort you put into your costumes — it’s amazing to see everyone and all of them dressing up,” she said.
Cosplayer Bianca Bella said she was excited to be at Comic Con with her friends.
“We’ve travelled ages to get here and everything’s going awesome and we’re having an awesome time, as we always do at Oz Comic Con,” Ms Bella said.
Madeline Lowe, who travelled from Tasmania, said it was her dream to go to Comic Con ever since she was little.
“I really like seeing niche characters,” Madeline said.
She added her costume took about three months to put together.
Cosplayer Connor Stirling said he was feeling excellent at the event.
“There’s a lot of people already so early in the day,” he said.
Connor said his outfit took about four and a half months to put together and that what makes a costume stand out was the person’s time and investment into the outfit.
“They’re not wearing it for some kind of a group thing, they wear it because they want too — they like the character or they like culture behind it,” he said.
Highlights at Comic Con also included guests getting the opportunity to purchase exclusive merchandise and new releases from the overwhelming option of stall setups.
Comic Con is an event not to be missed.
As fans wandered the venue, so too did the team at the Herald Sun, who roamed around to capture plenty of pictures of cosplayers in their impressive outfits, where cosplayers transformed into character and got their photo taken.
