An unemployed childcare worker accused of being an “active” drug trafficker was allegedly nabbed with meth, GHB, heroin and cash at her high-rise Melbourne apartment.
Elly Pascu, 31, fronted Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of amphetamine.
Pascu was arrested at her Southbank apartment she shared with co-accused boyfriend Jayden Sadler on April 11 this year.
The court heard Pascu landed on the radar after police launched an investigation into Sadler for allegedly attempting to import six large batches of 1,4 butanediol.
Major Drug Squad Senior Constable Paul Hagen told the court police found Pascu asleep on a couch when they raided her City Rd apartment.
Police allegedly seized meth, heroin, ecstasy, LSD, steroids, GHB, magic mushrooms, cannabis, suspected stolen IDs, multiple mobile phones, taser cartridges, deal bags, scales, cash and a cash counter.
It’s also alleged police discovered a hidden compartment within the coffee table which contained more empty deal bags, scales and a drug transaction ledger.
Pascu was arrested and hauled away for questioning.
Senior Constable Hagen told the court Sadler, who was in custody at the time of the raid, made “full admissions” to attempting to possess a large commercial quantity of 1,4 butanediol.
“All up we’re looking at 80 litres (of GHB),” Senior Constable Hagen said.
The court heard Pascu allegedly admitted selling meth and bute but denied knowledge of a large bag of meth found in “plain view” on the coffee table.
Senior Constable Hagen said police discovered 1700 recordings of voice calls on Sadler’s phone between he and several “associates”.
It’s alleged Pascu can be heard on several of these calls which were conducted via car speaker.
“It’s very clear that she’s active in the trafficking of these drugs …,” Senior Constable Hagen said.
“I will allege (Pascu and Sadler) are acting as a joint enterprise … she (Pascu) is actively involved in the drug trafficking.”
Senior Constable Hagen told the court his “personal view” was he was “supportive” of Pascu getting bail in the “right circumstances”.
“I was fortunate enough to spend several hours with her on the day of the arrest and I think that she’s genuinely a good person and unfortunately caught up with a horrible drug addiction,” he said.
Senior Constable Hagen clarified police opposed Pascu’s bail as she was at risk of using drugs and reoffending.
Police also opposed an intended address at Glenroy for Pascu to live at if granted bail because it was linked to drug activity.
Senior Constable Hagen said police had evidence Sadler and Pascu sold drugs to occupants of the Glenroy home.
The court heard Pascu, a mum who claims via social media to have previously worked in childcare, was unemployed after falling into drug use.
Pascu, who has no priors, was denied bail after the court raised concerns about a lack of suitable housing.
Pascu, who was also charged with possess ecstasy, heroin, steroids, LSD and 1,4 butanediol, will front court again on July 5.
