A drug trafficking kingpin left his girlfriend with nothing but tax debt after he “used, abused, and discarded her” throughout his criminal enterprise.

Jessica Homa, the ex-girlfriend of convicted murderer George Marrogi, was ordered to be of good behaviour for two years after being sentenced for dealing with cash suspected to be the proceeds of crime.

Homa, who had no priors, was the victim of a controlling relationship while Notorious Crime Family boss Marrogi dated other women, the court previously heard.

The 27-year-old was installed by Marrogi as the sole director of company Luxury Wedding and Events Hire and was listed as the owner of a property but did not financially benefit from either, in fact, all she acquired was Capital Gains Tax from the ATO, the court heard.

The court heard she was 24 years old with qualifications in architecture and human resources when in May 2021 $100,000 was deposited into the Suncorp bank account of a wedding business, as the syndicate sought to “make dirty money clean”.

During the earlier plea hearing, her lawyer Mark Gumbleton said the offending took place within the context of a controlling relationship which resulted in her growing distant from family and her church community.

Magistrate Kieran Gilligan said she was Marrogi’s “patsy” and simply a conduit for him and associates who gained nothing, and in fact incurred debt, for her part.

Mr Gilligan was satisfied her moral culpability was low given the unusual and atypical circumstances.

“You were used, abused, and discarded by Marrogi … and served as a vehicle to make dirty money clean,” Mr Gilligan said.

He said there was a bundle of references that displayed she was otherwise of good character and a positive contributor to the community who volunteered and had reconnected with her family and church.

She was placed on a $500 good behaviour bond for two years without conviction.
