Melbourne Magistrates’ Court: Dylan Weeks charged over Flinders Street Station graffiti attack

A man accused of scaling Flinders Street Station last month to deface the building with graffiti has fronted court after allegedly causing more than $280,000 of damage across Melbourne.

A man accused of scaling Flinders Street Station and defacing it with graffiti and causing more than $280,000 of damage across Melbourne has faced court.

Dylan Weeks appeared in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday after he was charged with more than 20 offences, which included criminal damage at the heritage-listed Flinders St site, inside the Westgate Tunnel Project, and on a number of train carriages across the city.

He was also charged with possessing a controlled weapon and criminal damage at the State Library of Victoria, Melbourne University and a person’s fence at Fitzroy.

On January 12, unsightly black and white graffiti tags were sprayed on the back of the heritage-listed building which police allege was the work of Mr Weeks.

Police allege the 23-year-old West Footscray man has caused more than $280,000 worth of damage across Melbourne on a number of occasions ranging from April 2023 to January 2024.

Mr Weeks is accused of causing about $200,000 of criminal damage at Flinders Street Station alone, including $120,000 worth of damage last month, $60,000 last October, and $20,000 last April.

He is also accused of causing about $80,000 worth of criminal damage to concrete structures belonging to the Victorian Government inside the Westgate Tunnel at Spotswood between June and December last year.

On Thursday, Mr Weeks appeared before Magistrate Kieran Gilligan wearing a blue creased button-up shirt where he sat silently behind his lawyer, Mick Milardovic

Mr Milardovic said he had not yet received the police brief and the prosecution was given until May to provide it.

Magistrate Gilligan extended his bail and the matter was adjourned to June 13.
