Rescued from the rubble of a devastating factory fire with burnt paws and smoke inhalation, this gorgeous puppy found a loving home in the arms of her hero.
Melbourne firefighter, Alex Eldridge feared the worst when he rushed into a burning Sunshine North building last month and located a dog pinned under a steel beam.
But through the smoke Alex saw the puppy’s bright blue eyes looking up at him.
“I shielded her with my body and when I looked down, it was beautiful, she trusted me straight away,” he said.
The Husky cross German Shepherd suffered burns and was covered in dust but was somehow survived the blaze.
After Alex rescued the puppy she was taken to a vet for treatment before being handed to a lost dogs home.
But the hero firey coudln’t leave his new friend, letting council staff know that if the unregistered pup — who had no microchip — was not claimed, that he would adopt and name her Ember.
After several weeks, Alex and partner Jordan Trabert were told no one had come forward and she was theirs.
“We’ve got a lot of love to give and a beautiful home, we did not plan this but it’s one of those things that fell into our life and now I can’t imagine not having Ember.”
“I have leant on my beautiful partner Jordan, she owned huskies before and has gone above and beyond, I am so grateful to have two fantastic women in my life.”
“In the mornings she pins her ears back, she’s all eyes and slowly wriggles up the bed, she is so loved and she will have a great life.”
The couple said the five month old had an infectious personality and they plan to enrol her in puppy school.
On Thursday, Ember was greeted at Fire Rescue Victoria’s headquarters in East Melbourne by Archer, a five-year-old Husky cross Pomeranian who is popular at the Eastern Hill Fire Station.
Archer belongs to acting Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Mitch Simons and the duo are the “gold standard”, according to crew members, in providing joy and stress relief after intense shifts.
