Victorians are being urged to get the flu jab ahead of a potentially deadly winter.
It comes as the state recorded 11,083 Covid cases and seven deaths on Friday, of people aged in their 50s, 70s and 80s.
Casey recorded the highest number of new cases on Friday (557), followed by Greater Geelong (473), Wyndham (415) and Moreland (370).
There are 428 Covid cases in hospital in Victoria – with 31 people in intensive care, including five on a ventilator.
Victorians are being urged to get their flu jabs to stay well this winter and reduce pressure on the health system.
Chief health officer Brett Sutton received his flu jab on Friday, and urged others to roll up their sleeves.
“Victoria has seen low rates of the flu over the last two years due to closed international borders and social distancing measures to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic,” Professor Sutton said.
“That also means that this winter is a really critical time to be protected with flu vaccinations.”
In a year of high influenza activity, it is estimated the flu can contribute to more than 3,300 deaths in Australia.
According to the Department of Health, no interval is required between the flu and Covid vaccinations as they target different viruses.
