An international RMIT student has been jailed after he and nine other armed, masked thugs tricked their way into a sex worker’s Melbourne unit and threatened to beat and rape her for giving their mate an STD.

Jiaming Guo and his friends went to the Elizabeth St unit on November 3, 2018 to get revenge after a friend who used her services caught an STD and had to go back to China for treatment.

The County Court heard Guo, who was 18 at the time, made a booking with the woman to gain entry to the unit, then let in all his mates.

During a terrifying one-hour attack, the 10 armed and masked men, all wearing gloves so they would not leave any fingerprints, threatened to rape the woman and tried to get her to transfer $10,000 to them from her bank account.

Judge McInerney said the group’s payback for their mate who got an STD was “well planned”.

“The intent as was indicated in the record of interview was to seek some type of revenge/recompense for what had occurred to their friend who was back in China, caused by him contracting a venereal disease at these premises,” he said.

“The entry was obtained by way of a ruse, which had been well planned.”

The victim, a Chinese national, was not physically hurt during the break in and returned to China soon after.

Guo was living in a Dryburgh St unit in Carlton bought for him by his parents at the time of the incident while he completed a business management course at RMIT on a student visa.

He was arrested one month after the attack, and cooperated with investigators by identifying his friends who took part in the attack, but no one else has been charged.

Now 20, pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary which has a maximum jail time of 25 years.

He will serve 12 months in Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre and has not been put under any further conditions once released.

After a stint in jail he can choose to stay in Melbourne and continue his studies.
