A former high-end luxury city store manager rorted $42,000 from her employer’s coffers to pay household bills, a court has heard.
Anna Yu, 36, pleaded guilty in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to a rolled-up charge of obtaining property by deception.
Yu was Saint Laurent David Jones city store manager when she diddled point-of-sale systems to transfer $41,180 via 15 bogus transactions between August 2018 and January 2019.
The scoundrel’ transferred false refunds onto her debit cards using old customer sales receipts.
Yu’s skulduggery was unmasked by Saint Laurent national manager Kirsten Womacks who interviewed her ex-employee in May 2019.
Yu was sacked and ordered to repay the stolen cash after admitting her crimes.
Yu repaid the money to Saint Laurent in July 2019, the court was told.
Yu, from Avondale Heights, was interviewed by police in October 2019.
The fraudster told police she stole the money to pay bills.
James Dowsley, for Yu, said his client’s offending ceased after she received her cut following the sale her family home.
Yu, who lived at the home with her mum, her two brothers and her brother’s wife, commenced thieving after responsibility to pay bill bills and make mortgage payments fell on her following a dispute with her older brother.
The court heard Yu, who now works for Bupa, was “deeply ashamed” of her offending.
Magistrate Michelle Hodgson ordered Yu be assessed for a community correction order.
Yu will be sentenced on November 10.
