An online creep with vile sexual fantasies who offered underage girls $65m of imaginary dollars in exchange for sexual material has been sentenced to nearly six years’ jail.

Darryl King, 56, re-offended just four months after his release from jail for possession of child pornography and pleaded guilty early this month to three charges, including using a carriage service to engage in sexual activity where he sent “brutal” requests to three girls under the age of 16.

In court on Monday, he was sentenced to five years and seven months in prison with a minimum non parole period of three years and nine months.

The court heard King – who has a schizoaffective personality disorder – told his victims in September 2022 that he wanted them to “participate in sex role play” and offered them $65m of imaginary funds for sexual photos over Snapchat.

In one exchange read out in court King told a victim aged just 11 at the time that “daddy wants to get you pregnant ... I want to take your virginity”.

He also masturbated during a two minute video call with two other victims aged under 16.

In a victim impact statement written by one of the victims’ mothers, she said her daughter could not watch Harry Potter films anymore as King “reminded her of (Professor) Dumbledore and gave her flashbacks”.

The offending occurred while King was out on a three-and-a-half year good behaviour bond, having been convicted and released from jail in May 2022 for possessing child abuse material.

His internet history post-release revealed searches for “social media apps for kids”.

King was also charged for failing to report a new Snapchat account and several new email addresses to police after his release.

Judge Nola Karapanagiotidis said the charges were inherently serious and that general deterrence was the primary sentencing consideration given the vulnerability of children online.

During a plea hearing early this month, forensic clinical psychologist consultant Dr Michael Davis, who was called as an expert witness, told the court that while King’s “preferred interest” was in “age play” – whereby women pretended to be children – King’s did find girls as young as 13 “attractive”.

King must serve a minimum of three years and nine months.
