More than 100 new Australians were joined by family and friends to celebrate their citizenship at the Melbourne Town Hall on Wednesday night.
The City of Melbourne hosts monthly citizenship ceremonies to mark the significant life event for thousands of new Australians.
About 29 different nationalities were represented at the ceremony signifying the diversity of Australia’s migrant community.
At 5.30pm, the City of Melbourne welcomed new citizens to make a ceremonial pledge and be called on stage to receive their citizenship before taking pictures and celebrating with loved ones.
City of Melbourne Deputy Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece said the event celebrated about 110 new Melburnians to the city.
“Melbourne’s diversity is our greatest strength and we’re proud to be one of the most multicultural cities in the world, with over 160 cultural backgrounds represented in our community,” Mr Reece said.
