SATINDER Chawla was born to play badminton.
Chawla caused quite a racquet at the 2018 Australia Sikh Games, winning the veteran singles and the veteran doubles badminton titles.
Competitors had to be 55 years and over for the veteran categories.
Chawla, 61, said he was over the moon with the achievement and it was a “privilege” to be a part of the games held in Sydney.
It was the first time he had tested his mettle at the tournament.
The three-day spectacle of sport and culture saw teams from around the world compete, including New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia.
Chawla began playing the sport at the age of 12 to follow in his dad’s footsteps, who was a keen player and coach. “Badminton is in my blood,” he said. “It’s my passion in life and I love every aspect.”
Chawla, who belongs to the Landmark Community Sports Club in Craigieburn, is also a Badminton Victoria coach.
