MONTMORENCY swimmer Tara Kinder is on a mission to represent Australia on the world stage at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

And the 14-year-old is doing everything she can to achieve that goal — one stroke at a time.

The Diamond Valley Eltham (DVE) Aquatic swimmer was declared the best swimmer for her age at the Victorian Age Championships.

She claimed five gold and two silver medals across butterfly, breaststroke and individual medley.

“I was completely shocked,” Tara said,

“I was up in the stands and when I heard them call out my name, I bolted for the pool deck.”

Each week Tara completes eight training sessions while juggling her studies at Montmorency Secondary College.

A typical day comprises a morning swim session, school, an hour at the gym plus a two-hour swim, before heading to bed ready to “do it all again”.

“Down the track my dream is to compete at the 2024 Olympics in Paris,” she said. “That’s the goal I’m really working hard towards.”

Tara is a 2018 Leader Local Sports Star Junior Nominee.
