Heidelberg resident Keely, 15, has become a top track cyclist in just two years since trying out the thrilling sport on a school holiday program.
“I really enjoyed riding, got into racing and now you can’t get me off the track,” she said.
Since finding her niche at the Thornbury racecourse, the year 10 Our Lady of Mercy College student has raced around Australia taking out championships.
Keely is currently the under-17s Australian national individual pursuit champion for track cycling and Victoria’s scratch race champion.
The Brunswick Cycling Club member trains up to 25 hours a week and said she loves the adrenaline rush.
“When you’re going around the track, it feels like you’re flying and it’s just the best feeling,” she said.
The ambitious young cyclist hopes to pedal her way to a career on the track and dreams of taking on the Olympics.
