TWO students from Footscray’s Team Adrenalin have floored the competition to claim spots in the 2017 Australian Gymnastics Championships.
Kathy Le, 9, of Seddon, and Lauren Andonovski, 12, of Maribyrnong, were picked to represent Victoria in acrobatic gymnastics in the event from May 22 to June 4. The pair are eligible to be Maribyrnong Leader Junior Sport Star nominees in the individual category.
Coach Melissa Presti said she was extremely proud of the pair.
“To see them qualify is a big deal. They did extremely well and are definitely on the right path to success,” Ms Presti said.
“It shows their hard work is paying off.”
Ms Presti said it would motivate others at the club to achieve more.
She said Kathy and Lauren started in recreational gymnastics and were eventually asked to move into the competitive program.
“This will inspire other kids who are doing it for fun and fitness that they can eventually be on the state team as well,” she said.
The 2017 Australian Gymnastics Champions will feature 1400 athletes competing more than 6000 routines at Hisense Arena.
Leader Local Sports Stars medallists will be named in seven categories including juniors, teams, individuals, and encouragement.
The program is now a national celebration, and junior category winners will be judged for national awards. Cash prizes as well as vouchers from our sponsor Sportsmart are up for grabs.
