THERE is a lot that could divide the All Saints basketball team.

But what makes the under-14 girls side from Roxburgh Park different has been their greatest asset.

The eight players, from six different nationalities, are the team to beat due to their spirit on and off the court.

Club president Roshan Silva said the diversity of the players was their biggest strength given it encouraged inclusion and teamwork.

He said the side finished runners-up at the 2017 Eltham Dandenong Junior Basketball Tournament, winning eight out of nine matches.

They have either won or been runners-up over the past four years at the tournament.

Mr Silva said for the side it wasn’t about winning but giving every game their best. “We either win or we learn,” he said.

“If we lose we learn something from the other team.”

Mr Silva said the players, some of whom have been playing together since 2010, had formed a strong bond.

The All Saints Basketball Team is this week’s Leader Local Sports Stars Young Sporting Spirit Team nominee.
