Craigieburn SES volunteers dominate Victoria Police and Emergency Service Games

THIS Craigieburn trio recently won more gold medals combined than Australia did at the Rio Olympic Games.

THIS trio won more gold medals combined than Australia did at the Rio Olympic Games.

Craigieburn SES volunteers Rob Reid, Anita Lutz and Harminder Singh dominated at the recent Victoria Police and Emergency Service Games.

Their tally overall was 17 medals, including 11 gold.

Reid’s five gold and five silver in swimming was all the more exceptional given it was his 10th games.

He has also competed at the Australasian Police and Emergency Service Games and World Fire-Fighter Games for a total of 83 medals.

Reid, 53, said he was thrilled with his most recent performance.

He competed in the 50-55 age group coming first in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle divisions.

Reid said it was a great challenge every year and a way to get to know other emergency service agencies.

“The games are a way to challenge myself and improve,” he said.

“The result comes down to hard work. You get what you put in.”

Rather than having his medal haul on display most were kept in a draw, he said.

Lutz won five gold and a bronze across cycling, running and indoor rowing and Singh a gold in the cross country.
