AT JUST 12, a Brighton gymnast is winning national accolades.
Cody Norman was ranked fifth in the country at this year’s Australian Gymnastics Championships.
The Kilvington Grammar Year 7 student was named the Highest Placed Victorian in her level, and won a bronze medial on uneven bars.
Cody and her squad were also named Victorian Champions at the Victorian Team Finals on Sunday, August 6.
Mother Bronwyn Covill-Norman said she and coach Melissa Skewes were very proud.
“Under the guidance of Melissa, Cody fought against approximately 75 girls across Victoria in two separate trials, all vying to be selected to represent Victoria in the final Victorian Team of eight,” she said.
“The school has been super supportive of her rigorous schedule. Some of the teachers and students even attended HiSense arena to watch her and cheer her on.”
Cody started gymnastics aged four, at the National Centre of Excellence in Prahran.
Cody is this week’s Leader Local Sports Star.
The program is a national celebration, and junior category winners will be judged for national awards.
Medallists will also be named in seven categories including juniors, teams, individuals, and encouragement.
Cash prizes as well as vouchers from our sponsor Sportsmart are up for grabs.
