WHEN she’s not busy working on her footy skills, Amber Clarke is jumping over hurdles on the athletics track.

The Narre Warren North teenager has her sights set on pursuing both sports in the future.

Amber, 13, is a member of Rowville Secondary College’s sports academy, and is part of the school’s AFL program.

She is also a star on the athletics track, coming first in the 80m and 200m hurdles in the under-13 category at the recent Little Athletics Championships in Queensland.

A member of Knox Little Athletics Club, Amber is also the Australian record holder in the 80m hurdles for her age group.

Her mum Pauline said Amber wanted to pursue both sports when she got older and make the Olympic Games and AFLW.

“We’re absolutely so proud of her,” Mrs Clarke said.

Amber said Australian Olympic gold medallist Sally Pearson was her role model.

“Seeing Sally Pearson do well in everything she does inspires me,” Amber said.

She was the first girl accepted into the AFL academy at Rowille and trains 10 hours a week, with gym and athletic development mixed in with regular school subjects.

Amber is a 2018 Leader Local Sports Star Junior Nominee. To nominate someone in your community, click here.
