WRFL: Suns too good for Braybrook in Division 3 Anzac Day clash

Suns coach Dean Cachia believes his side’s big pre-season held them in good stead in a thriller against Braybrook as one player proved “the difference” between the two clubs.

Suns coach Dean Cachia believes the magnets were flipped unlike anything he had seen before during his side’s Anzac Day win.

In a brutal game of footy, key forwards became midfielders and the on-ballers turned into targets inside forward 50 during a desperate last quarter against Braybrook.

With “players cramping everywhere” the final 15 minutes became the survival of the fittest.

Eventually it was the Suns who held on for a 13.17 (85) to 12.9 (81) win in a clash between two WRFL Division 3 premiership contenders.

But according to Cachia, Josh Foster was eventually “the difference” between the two sides.

“His supreme fitness stood out from everybody else,” he said.

“He was still running on top of the ground. Midfielders from both sides were out on their feet. It was a great game of footy.

“Both sides were down rotations on the bench and I’m just glad we were able to come out on top.”

Blake Jago was best on ground for the Suns, kicking four goals and a “heap of points”.

Meanwhile ruckman Michael Ryan produced a dominant display in the air.

Adam Scarpino, Nathan Halapio and Lucas Andrew were also named among the Suns’ better players.

“I didn’t think we played well all day but did some good things in patches,” Cachia said.

“We threw everything we had at Braybrook. We were confident that what we’ve worked on throughout pre-season was always going to stand up as well.

“I think Braybrook are right there with us and Albanvale in terms of fighting for a premiership.

“But the boys know there is still a lot of hard work ahead of us.”

Cachia said his side were now fortunate to have a bye.

“We’ll use the week to rest up and go again in two weeks time,” he said.

“It was an extremely physical game of footy but we were always preparing for that.”

Braybrook will now face another stern test on the road to Albanvale.
