WRFL: Jy Lambley, Jack Barrett lift Parkside to victory over Wyndhamvale

A host of Parkside recruits made stunning starts to their time with the Magpies with one booting three final quarter goals in a win over fellow premiership contender Wyndhamvale.

Jy Lambley is already endearing himself to the Parkside faithful.

The off-season recruit produced a stunning final quarter display with three goals to help guide the Magpies to a 13.14 (92) to 10.6 (66) win over fellow WRFL Division 2 premiership contender Wyndhamvale.

Lambley’s trio of goals were among nine majors the visitors kicked to run away with the contest having trailed by 25 points at the final change.

Parkside coach Chris Muratore said he and his coaching staff knew Lambley was going to “have his moment” at some point throughout the afternoon.

“We spoke to Jy and told him his chance would come,” he said.

“It was one of those days where you were going to be able to score quickly at one end of the ground and defend for your life at the other. But those windy conditions are usually what you get when you play Wyndhamvale at their ground.

“Guys including Jy were able to take the chances when they mattered and it was pleasing we were able to turn it around especially after we kicked six points against the wind in the first quarter.

“It’s not a bad way to start the season.”

Lambley wasn’t the only recruit to stamp his authority on the contest with Jackson Barrett and Michael Jubb named as the Magpies best two players in dominant displays.

“Those two guys did the brunt of the work in the middle,” Muratore said.

“Jacko and Mick have both come in and enjoyed really strong pre-seasons. We’re very pleased with the starts they’ve made to their time with the club.”

Star Shaun Campbell took his game to “another level” in the final quarter according to Muratore while the move of John Atar to full-forward proved to be an inspiring one.

Jonah Vraca and Heath Smith were also named among Parkside’s better players.

“We felt the game was on our terms even though we were down by four goals at three-quarter time,” the Parkside mentor said.

“Our defensive effort in the third quarter was huge but unfortunately they kicked three goals after the 15-minute mark which probably undid a little bit of that.”

Despite coming away with the four points, Muratore said the conditions meant it was “difficult to gauge” how the two sides compared.

Mackenzie Parker, Liam Scarborough, Tyler Tessari, Jayme Gilmore, Alex Hamilton and Kyle Bistisi were named in the best for the Falcons.

“They’re a quality outfit who will be one of the best teams in the competition,” Muratore said.

“I was speaking to their coach (Luke Wenlock) after the game and we were talking about how difficult the conditions were and how the game was always going to come down to which side could take their chances.

“We will see them again and there’s no doubt it will be another good test of our credentials.”
