Two local footy clubs have been punished over a brawl which saw a player chased around the ground on Saturday.
The Western Region league has stripped Newport and Wyndhamvale’s senior and reserves teams of four premiership points following the violent incident during the Division 2 clash.
Video shows a person, believed to be a Wyndhamvale player, being punched and then chased around the outside of the field.
Both clubs have been fined $2500 for “bringing the league into disrepute”.
“The investigation pertaining to individuals involved remains ongoing,” the WRFL said in a statement.
“These sanctions should serve as notice to all clubs and supporters that the WRFL Board will act promptly and decisively in its efforts to eliminate condemnable acts the likes of which occurred on Saturday, whether culprits involved are directly/formally affiliated with their respective club or otherwise.
“The league acknowledges and appreciates the full and ongoing co-operation of both clubs involved.”
Police were called to Langshaw Reserve about 3.30pm on Saturday after reports a group of people were involved in a physical altercation.
Wyndhamvale eventually won the game by seven points.
As a result of the decision, Wyndhamvale will move back level on 20 points on the ladder with Newport a game further back.
