Braybrook coach Vinnie Turcinovich isn’t afraid to set lofty standards for his players.
And it’s exactly the case for Brody Vorano.
Entering his third year at Pennell Reserve, Turcinovich is tipping Varano to have a big season alongside his brothers Caiden and Jack.
Brody already has an impressive WRFL resume having played in North Footscray’s 2017 Division 2 premiership as a teenager.
“Brody could be the best player in the competition,” he said.
“He was really impressive on the wing and across halfback at different stages last season and he’s enjoyed a really strong pre-season.
“Caiden finished sixth in our best and fairest in 2021 and we’re expecting him to build on that form.
“Jack is coming from a little further back after dealing with some injury issues but it would be great to see him out on the park.”
The Brookers have recruited strongly in the off-season with new and returning faces being added to last year’s playing group.
Of those making a comeback to the club, the most notable is “club legend” Ricky Howell.
The inside midfielder returned to Pennell Reserve after a stint with Sunshine Heights in 2021 where he earned Team of the Year selection and kicked 24 goals.
“It’s absolutely huge for us to have him back,” Turcinovich said.
“He’s absolutely flying at the moment to the point where we almost need to slow him down.
“Ricky has jumped on board as an assistant coach as well. He’s a great asset on the field because he doesn’t always need to get a touch to have an impact.”
Dion Carabott, who also earned selection in the Team of the Year last season, has made the move from Laverton along with former Magpies teammate Rinor Zuzaku.
Turcinovich also spoke highly of ruckmen Mike Wilson who has crossed from North Sunshine.
“Mike is still a raw prospect but I can’t see why he doesn’t develop into one of the dominant big men of the competition who could go onto play at a higher level,” he said.
“As a club, we’ve told the younger guys who have joined us that we want to see them develop and then go and test themselves in a tougher competition once they feel they are ready.”
Jackson Connor, Luke Ford, Jake Kane, Michael Shailer, Malakye Williams and Liam Wilson are also among new faces to the club.
Braybrook opens its season against Laverton at home on April 9.
