Any concerns about Yarraville-Seddon’s patchy start to the WRFL Division 2 season can officially be erased.

The Eagles, who have lost the past three grand finals and were untouchable last year until the decider, lost two of their opening three games in 2019.

They extended their winning run to five games on Saturday with a virtuoso display against previously undefeated Wyndhamvale.

Yarraville-Seddon trailed by nine points at quarter-time before piling on 14 goals to four in the final three terms to score a 59-point win, 16.18 (114) to 7.13 (55).

If pundits thought the flag was the Falcons to lose, it might be time to review those predictions.

Eagles coach Vinnie Turcinovich, who is in his second year at the helm, said his team overused the ball early in the contest before five unanswered goals in the second quarter provided a taste of what was to come.

“We had some really good wins last year,” Turcinovich said.

“Just talking to a few of the Yarraville faithful, they said it’s probably the best win that we’ve had in a couple of years.

“We’re not at full strength. They (Wyndhamvale) probably had a few players out and we don’t have two or three of our best.”

The success did come at a cost, however, with Harris Lanyon set for a long spell on the sidelines after breaking his arm.

Turcinovich said Lanyon could be “winning our best and fairest”.

Jesse Varsamakis was best afield and bagged four majors, while Karan Bharathi (two majors), Ole Angerstein and Daniel Bolkas also impressed.

“We played good footy in patches. We definitely didn’t play the four quarters, which is what we want to be known for,” Turcinovich said.

“If anything, we got better as the game went on.

“But good sides play the four quarters, and that’s what we’re after.”

The Eagles sit in second spot with a 6-2 record, equal on points with third-ranked Point Cook Centrals and one game clear of fourth-placed Parkside.

Yarraville-Seddon will tackle Centrals away from home this weekend.

“It’s not going to get easier, and that’s what we’ve spoken about,” Turcinovich said.

“We’ve still got to work just as hard and work on the track and do extras.

“At the start of the season, we had a few boys who didn’t do a pre-season I expected … and they found themselves playing in the development side and had to work pretty hard to get back in.

“They’ve done that, and I think it’s been better for the individuals.”
