THE scars of consecutive grand final defeats will not hamper Yarraville-Seddon’s Western Region Football League Division 2 premiership quest, says captain Lachie Longmire.

The revamped Eagles completed an undefeated home-and-away campaign on Saturday and will enter finals as a raging flag favourite.

Yarraville-Seddon defeated Point Cook by 66 points in the final round and will meet the same opponent this weekend for a place in the decider.

Reigning premier North Footscray and Parkside will contest the elimination final.

Star midfielder Longmire played in both grand final losses to Caroline Springs and North Footscray, but the Eagles are fielding a very different looking side this season under first-year coach Vinnie Turcinovich.

“There’s only four or five guys who have experienced the grand final losses, so this young group will come in and it will be their first time experiencing that,” Longmire said.

“Mix the finals experience in with the guys who haven’t really been there, I can’t see it being too much of an issue.

“Through the whole season, we’ve paid a tremendous amount of respect to who we’ve played against and I think anyone can knock anyone off on any day.”

The Eagles have promoted several homegrown young guns this year with Brandon Lester, Blake Green, Ben Wagland, Lachlan Huell, Liam Murray, Eddie Ford and Nick and Michael Tsaloukis wasting no time establishing themselves.

While Corey Salvador will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury after booting 51 goals from 13 games, the fact Yarraville-Seddon finished with a monster percentage of 278.50 to go with 17 wins and a draw underlines its dominance.

Longmire lauded the impact of former Port Melbourne assistant Turcinovich, who replaced Dean Callaway.

“He’s been part of finals series the last eight or nine times he’s been involved with coaching,” he said.

“He does bring a tremendous depth of experience and knowledge to the group.

“He’s extremely passionate, knows exactly what he wants to do and everyone’s really bought in to a game plan that’s been well suited to the group.

“I’ve got a tremendous amount of respect for him and how he goes about it.”
