Kew scores 12-goal win over Whitehorse to start the VWFL Division 1 season in fine style
KEW opened its Victorian Women’s Football League Division 1 season in perfect fashion, smashing its way to the top of the ladder with a 12-goal win over neighbouring Whitehorse on Saturday.

KEW opened its Victorian Women’s Football League Division 1 season in perfect fashion, smashing its way to the top of the ladder with a 12-goal win over neighbouring Whitehorse at Victoria Park on Saturday.
After edging to a three-goal lead at the first change, Kew set sail with a five-goal second quarter while holding Whitehorse to a solitary behind for the opening half.
Kew went on to win, 12.11 (83) to 1.5 (11).
Ashlee Kate Bruce bankrolled the win with a haul of four goals while Amber McEwin, Shaylee Taylor and Stacey Portelli chipped in with two-apiece.
Bruce, Isabelle Harding, Clare O’Donnell, Jessica Burger, Priscilla Lodge and McEwin were named Kew’s best half-dozen in the win.
Monique Trusler kicked Whitehore’s sole major in the third quarter while Morgan Cocks, Amelia Dawborn, Grace Dillon, Molly Dillon, Adriana Piva and Rosie Dillon battled gamely against the odds.
On Sunday, Kew will look to defend the summit when it takes to the road for a clash against Endeavour Hills at Barry Simons Reserve while Whitehorse will take on Diamond Creek at C.T. Barling Reserve in Reservior.
