Vic Metro and Vic Country squads announced for Under-19 National Championships

The future of the AFLW will be on display this weekend with Vic Metro and Vic Country announcing their squads for the national championships opener.

The future stars of the AFLW will be on display on Sunday.

Vic Metro and Vic Country have named star-studded squads of the weekend’s Under-19 National Championships opener in Ballarat.

NAB League Girls leading midfielders Charlotte Baskaran (28.6 disposals a game) and Jasmine Fleming (25.4) lead the Vic Metro squad.

The competition’s leading tackler Sofia Hurley (11 a game) adds a hard edge and 146cm pocket rocket Ava Jordan is capable of making an impact across the ground.

Vic Country will look to its ultra dangerous forward line, which includes Amber Clarke (14 goals), Lizzie Dowling (12 goals) and Analea McKee (10 goals).

Keeley Skepper has found the ball with ease this season, averaging 22.4 disposals, with a season-high of 32 against Calder from half-back, while Molly Walton comes in with strong form after back-to-back 29-disposal performances.

The battle between Krystal Russell and Bianca Lyne in the ruck will be pivotal to providing their teams with first use.

Murray Bushrangers young gun Zarli Goldsworthy is missing despite averaging 26.3 disposals and 9.9 tackles in seven outings.

Eastern Ranges dominates the Vic Metro squad with seven players, while Oakleigh and Western contribute six each.

Sandringham Dragons has nine players in the Vic Country squad.

The Metro v Country clash is a standalone match with the Under-17 National Championships set to resume in April.

Country travels to South Australia on April 16 and Vic Metro travels to Queensland on April 19 for their second matches.
