Gold Coast Suns utility Sean Lemmens will be sidelined for a month after he was cited for a dangerous tackle in the VFL.
The 29-year-old was handed a four-week ban by the match review panel after a dump tackle in the final minutes of his side’s win over Box Hill in the reserves.
After a boundary throw in, Lemmens lifted Hawk Josh Bennetts off the ground and slammed him into the turf.
Officials graded the incident as careless conduct, high contact and severe impact.
The Suns unsuccessfully challenged the ban at the tribunal on Tuesday night.
Lemmens has not added to his 145 games at AFL level this season under new Suns coach Damien Hardwick after 11 appearances last season.
The ban also applies to AFL level.
Western Bulldogs recruit James Harmes was the only other AFL played cited on the weekend after careless umpire contact. He can escape with a reprimand with an early plea.
Lemmens was one of three players to receive four game bans when the match review panel findings were released on Monday.
GWS Giants recruit Marc Sheather was cited for rough conduct against Sandringham’s Max Heath.
Liam Mackie of the Northern Bullants was given a four-match ban for rough conduct in the game against Geelong’s Marcus Herbert.
Bullants teammate John Roumeliotis was initially handed a three-game suspension but escaped with two games on an early plea for rough conduct also against Herbert.
