IS IT parmi or parma?
Well, if you asked anyone in attendance at Northern Blues’ VFL clash with Werribee on Sunday, they’d tell you it is in fact Palmer.
Former Port Adelaide forward Jesse Palmer pushed his AFL draft case again with a five-goal haul as a Northern Blues’ side packed with VFL-listed players trumped the Tigers by 27 points at Chirnside Park.

The 21-year-old took his season tally to 21 goals from 12 games with a dominant display in the 15.8 (98) to 9.17 (71) triumph, leading coach Josh Fraser to say “the skill set he has would be quite appealing to AFL clubs”.

“In terms of that medium-sized forward that is good overhead, very good in the contest, has good goal sense and works really hard,” Fraser said.
“I don’t know if there’s a heap of them around and he would be one to watch.”
Four of Palmer’s majors came in the second and third terms as he helped the visitors establish an unassailable 46-point lead at three-quarter-time.
While Werribee kicked five goals to two in the final term, the damage had been done as Palmer and skipper Tom Wilson combined to lead Northern to its third win of the campaign.
Wilson had 35 disposals, 12 clearances and eight tackles in the victory, producing a true captain’s game.
Fraser also praised the performances of VFL-listed players Ethan Penrith and Jordan Lynch, while ex-Sydney rookie Sam Fisher continued his impressive run of form.
“Again, we fielded quite a young side,” Fraser said.
“But I think the belief they are gaining from playing with each other each week is coming through.”
Sunday was as close as the Blues have come to fielding a solely VFL side for several years.
Darcy Lang, Sam Rowe, Ciaran Byrne and Cam O’Shea were among eight AFL-listed players who featured, but the win was engineered predominantly by the Blues’ state league young guns.
“I think we have been pretty good for the most part of the year for a three-win team,” Fraser said.
“We are hungry to make sure we finish off really well.”
