UHS-VU coach Paul Rocke says his side’s unblemished start allows it to perfect its winning formula on the run home.
The Vultures, who played off in a preliminary final last year, are 5-0 to start the VAFA Division 1 season.
Rocke’s side is a win clear of upcoming opponent Prahran, which is the only side to boast a larger percentage than the Vultures.
The third-year coach has his focus solely on this week but admits the “great start” to the year allows his side to “try a few things”.
“We want to get back into the division higher than us, that hasn’t altered,” Rocke said.
“Five-zip is a great start, we can start trying a few things, not this week because we have a really good opponent.
“But when we come around the second time we can try a few things, mix up a couple of things, throw the magnets around.”
The Vultures are putting their preliminary final lessons into practice in 2024 after it instilled “a fair bit of self-belief”.
“It set us up and gave us a bit of an understanding, you learn off the better sides, hopefully we improve another couple of spots this year,” he said.
“I think we’ve got a fair bit of self-belief and realised if we play our style of footy, it holds up.”
Rocke loved the start from players Harrison Kennedy, James Healey, Noah Seiderman and Liam Starzer but was full of praise for his coaching panel.
“My two assistant coaches, Tommy Howard and Sammy McSweeney, they help me a lot because they relate to the young blokes,” he said.
