The cartoonist responsible for some of Australia’s most iconic pieces is sketching his way into local footy.

Herald Sun cartoonist Mark Knight is linking with the Victorian Amateur Football Association this September in an initiative to raise funds for the Good Friday Appeal.

The partnership is offering an opportunity for a lucky winner to secure a framed custom artwork of their favourite VAFA team from Knight.

Tickets for the prize will be raffled, with all proceeds going to the Good Friday Appeal.

Knight is widely known in the sporting landscape for his iconic premiership posters.

The winning club will work closely with Knight to create a piece that captures the character of their club.

Tickets, which will be sold at all VAFA finals venues, will be just $10 with a maximum 6000 sold.

The winner will be drawn on October 15.

The VAFA’s broadcast partner, KommunityTV, has stepped up to help expand the reach of the raffle.

Good Friday Appeal Executive Director Rebecca Cowan said the idea was “an incredible opportunity” to raise needed funds.

“Thank you to VAFA, Mark Knight, Herald Sun and KommunityTV for this incredible support,” she said.

“This is an incredible opportunity for a VAFA team to own such a unique piece of art all whilst raising much needed funds for sick kids and their families.”

VAFA CEO Jason Reddick is proud to be joining forces with the Good Friday Appeal.

“Our two organisations have a clear alignment in values and boast a proud history of supporting our local community,” he said.

“Mark Knight’s caricatures are synonymous with football in Melbourne and the opportunity for a lucky person to win one of his personalised caricatures will help raise much needed funds for the Good Friday Appeal.

“The VAFA finals culminate on the public holiday Friday, September 27th, with our William Buck Premier Men’s Grand Final at Elsternwick Park.

“As the only community game in Melbourne on that day, we would love to see a huge crowd in attendance supporting the Good Friday Appeal, while also enjoying a fantastic day watching elite level community football.”

Knight himself is looking forward to adding a community flavour to the iconic premiership posters.

“The AFL Herald Sun Premiership posters have a rich history of raising funds for the Good Friday Appeal, so it’s great to be able to extend that support by drawing a Knight Premiership poster for a VAFA club,” Knight said.
