The Ormond Football Club is mourning the loss of its vice-president, remembering him as a man who helped build the club to where it is today on and off the field.

The Victorian Amateur Football Association club posted a tribute to Greg ‘Flame’ Holman after his death on Sunday morning.

Holman had been involved with the club for over 50 years including four premierships as a player and being Ormond’s longest serving committee member of 34 years alongside Greg Fisher.

He had been a two-time Club Person of the Year in 2012 and 2020 while being introduced as a life member in 1981.

Holman played 224 senior games.

“A true legend of the OAFC in every sense of the word.

“Greg’s involvement with Ormond spans more than half a century, commencing as a player in 1971 and continuing as an OAFC committee member, vice-president, football up until the early hours of this morning. Remarkably, Greg was still talking Ormond and ‘what needs to be done’ well into last night with Mat and Aaron.

“Greg loved this club much more than the club could ever love him in return.

“A true gentlemen in every interaction with players, coaches, trainers, members, supporters and opposition clubs. Brown and blue ran through his veins and he represented the club with distinction for over 50 years.
“The legacy of Greg ‘Flame’ Holman and the dynasty of the Holman Family will continue to drive the Ormond Amateur Football Club to be the very best both in battle and amongst the community.”

Greg Hammond said: “I have been lucky enough to be involved with the club for almost 30 years. In that time that club has not seen a more dedicated or selfless servant. A true legend of the club and as a person.”
